The course will take place on site or at the Barony and will cover chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting, stacking and felling techniques. It will be delivered by one of the Barony's qualified forestry instructors and leads to assessment in NPTC CS30/31. The course content includes: Unit CS30.1 Maintain the Chainsaw - the regular operator maintenance required for top or rear-handled chainsaws in workshop and field conditions, including starting and pre-work checks. Unit CS30.2 Cross-cut and Stack Produce - Max recommended guide bar length 380mm (15'). Cutting lying timber which is less than 380mm (15') across (ie less than guide bar length), but which is of sufficient length/weight to exert moderate tension and compression forces. Unit CS31 Fell Small Trees - Max recommended guide bar length 380mm (15'). This unit covers the felling of trees with effective diameter at felling height of between 200mm (8') and 380mm (15'). It includes four elements: 1) Fell trees 2) Sned conifers and/or de-limb broad-leaved trees 3) Cross-cut and stack produce 4) Take down of hung up trees using hand tools.
